camille (1936)

this thanksgiving i had the pleasure of spending with absolutely the most fabulous family in the state of alabama. on thanksgiving day the matriarch of the household provided myself and my best friend with luxurious mink coats and strands of freshwater pearls to wear while watching old movies.

we went on a garbo/barrymore kick and watched both "the grand hotel" and "camille."  the fantastic greta garbo was exquisite in her outrageous dresses, kicking about paris with a very delicious, young robert taylor.

"so much heart, such little sense," says the baron about garbo's marguerite. it was a fantastic role for the legendary garbo, and one most definitely worth watching. just remember to have your box of tissues within reach of your lace-gloved hand. if you don't weep at the end of this one, you're probably not human.
